NORMAN - Oklahoma rowing has announced a new scholarship program created specifically for out of sport high school athletes from the state of Oklahoma.Ā  The program, entitled "Sooner Bred", is open to all out of sport high school athletes interested in representing OU and competing at the highest level of Division I athletics.Ā Ā

"As we continue to grow our program, we're expanding our recruiting efforts to attract the best and brightest out of sport athletes in our state.Ā  The Sooner Bred program is designed to provide scholarship opportunities for highly motivated, competitive high school athletes with a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and desire to compete at the highest level."Ā

Out of sport athletes have played a huge part in leading the Sooners to two Big 12 championships, 17 individual boat conference championship titles and two NCAA championship appearances since the program's inception in 2008-09.Ā Ā

Every year, roughly 50 percent of the Sooners' roster is made up of student athletes from non-rowing backgrounds and more than thirty percent of the roster is comprised of athletes from Oklahoma.Ā

Individuals interested in the "Sooner Bred" program are encouraged to visit soonersports.com/rowforouĀ to apply and learn more about the program.Ā Applicants will be reviewed and selected based on athletic and academic criteria. Up to one full scholarship will be awarded to qualified applicants.Ā
