Secor and Screen Continue Summer Slate

NORMAN -- Oklahoma women's golfers Ellen Secor and Hannah Screen both continued their summer seasons away from Norman over the past week. Secor competed in her home state at the Oregon Women's Stroke Play Championship and Screen made her return to competitive golf at the Rose Ladies Series at Buckinghamshire Golf Club in England.
Secor, an OU senior, finished in a tie for seventh at the Stroke Play Championship after finishing 10-over at Riverside Golf and Country Club. The top-10 finish marks another successful outing for the Portland, Oregon, native who finished T5 in stroke play at the Oregon Women's Amateur in late June. The Sooners' 2019-20 season was cut short due to COVID-19 and for many of OU's golfers, the summer circuit provides them a safe and fun way to get back on the course.
"What I've really learned from these tournaments is to start enjoying the game more." Secor said after the Stroke Play Championship. "When COVID-19 hit, I had to take about a month off from golf since everything was closed and it made me miss the game a lot. Ever since I've started playing again I've been trying to have fun every time I'm out there and be grateful for the rounds that I do get to play, especially the ones in competition."
The senior will look to help bolster an OU lineup that is coming off a season where it set the best scoring average in program history and only lost one player due to graduation.
Hannah Screen, a product of England and member of England's overseas' national team, got back onto the course this week at the Justin Rose Ladies Series at Buckinghamshire Golf Club, just outside of London. Screen was one of three amateurs to play in the field at Buckinghamshire and finished in a tie for 26th after carding a 4-over 76.
Screen will join the Sooners in competition this fall after sitting out the spring 2020 semester due to transfer rules after coming to Norman from the University of Houston where she helped lead the Cougars to an AAC championship in 2019.
