50 Sooners Earn Big 12 Academic Honors

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma track and field team put 50 Sooners on the 2020 Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field Team, the most honorees for OU in six seasons. The conference announced Wednesday the 384 student-athletes receiving the academic honors.

Of the 50 Sooners, 29 women and 15 men were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, while three men and three women were named to the second team.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulatively or in the previous two semesters, while participating in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests and having completed at least one year in residence at OU. Senior student-athletes who have participated a minimum of two years and meet all of the criteria except for the participation percentage are also eligible.

Of the 384 student-athletes recognized by the conference, 232 were women (204 first-team and 28 second-team) and 152 men (107 first-team and 45 second-team).

To make the first team, the student-athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher, either cumulatively or for the previous two semesters. Second-team honorees carry a 3.00-3.19 GPA.

Six Sooners earned special recognition for earning a 4.00 GPA: Camri Austin, Myah Bowen, Chandler Branum, Faith Ette, Lauren Jones and Graham Santilli.
