NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams notched 18 victories, numerous personal bests and set a meet record Saturday at the J.D. Martin Invitational.
"I'm so excited about how today went," said OU interim head coach Tim Langford. "It is evident that the kids really enjoyed competing at home. They had family here, friends here, support that we don't usually get on the road and it made a difference."
The Sooners' first win of the meet came from junior Lauren Jones in the women's weight throw. The Ohio native threw 19.16m, which placed her No. 6 on OU's all-time top-performance list. Jones was joined in the event by freshman Geraldine Udo and junior Lauryn Jones. Udo threw 15.89m, good for a fourth-place finish.
On the men's side of the event, sophomore Bayley Campbell finished in first place with a personal-best throw of 19.44m. Junior Edward Jeans threw 18.09m, finishing in second place. Freshman Diego Trevino took eighth place in his weight throw debut by throwing 15.19m.
Junior Falyn Reaugh continued the trend in the women's high jump and secured the Sooners another victory by clearing 1.75m. Freshman Melissa Matthews finished in ninth, clearing 1.55m.
In the women's pole vault, redshirt senior Meagan Gray secured the win by clearing 4.25m. Gray's mark improved her ranking on OU's all-time performance list from third to second. Junior Abby Bilsbury cleared 3.90m, notching a third-place finish.
Freshman Mikeisha Welcome secured the women's long jump crown, leaping 5.87m in her event debut, while senior Amanda Van Buren jumped 5.71m to earn second place. Sophomore Madison Langley-Walker finished in third by leaping 5.69m. Freshman Lavinja Jurgens took fourth place with a jump of 5.69m and redshirt freshman Deja Alexis jumped 5.46m to earn sixth place.
On the track, the men's distance medley relay team secured a first-place finish, clocking in at 10:21.71. On the women's side, the squad crossed the line at 12:42.04 to finish in second.
In the women's 60-meter dash, six Sooners advanced from prelims to the finals. Junior Dai'Lyn Merriweather took the crown, clocking a personal-record 7.581. Fellow junior Ja'Leesa Giles finished in second place with a time of 7.584 and was followed by senior Amanda Van Buren in third (7,49), sophomore Kennedy Blackmon in fourth (7.63), junior Camri Austin in fifth.
On the men's side of the event, five Sooners advanced to the finals. Senior Jackson Webb finished first overall, running a 6.66. The remaining Sooners all notched personal records. Junior Joseph Sheffield finished in second with a time of 6.67, while junior Demarius Smith finished in third at 6.71. Robinson claimed the fourth spot with a time of 6.81 and sophomore Quoi Ellis rounded out the top five, clocking in at 6.82.
In the men's 60-meter hurdles, the Sooners advanced three athletes to the finals. Redshirt sophomore Isaiah Levingston finished in 7.98, claiming first place. Junior Garry Williams finished in third (8.34) and sophomore Will Kubicek claimed fourth (8.55). The women advanced three athletes to the finals with junior Camri Austin finishing in second place with a time of 8.30. Sophomore Madison Langley-Walker finished second (8.66) and senior Mahendra McWhite took fourth (8.69).
Junior Essence Thomas claimed another women's triple jump crown and set a J.D. Martin Invitational record in the process. Her personal-record 13.29m mark stands as the second best in school history. Redshirt sophomore Nura Muhammad finished in second with a leap of 12.52m. Muhammad's jump was also good for a personal best. Sophomore Nicole Ezeoke took third with her 12.46m jump while sophomore Symone Washington leaped 12.44m to earn fourth place.
In the men's 400-meter dash, sophomore Caleb Johnson took first with a time of 50.22. Sophomore Zac Tucker finished in 51.17, earning second place. Junior Myles Wheeler took third place (51.3), sophomore Brooks Glanton finished fourth (51.35) and junior Sorre Bah claimed seventh (53.23).
Junior Jai'Lyn Merriweather was the lone Sooner competing in the women's 600 yards, and she took first place with a time of 1:23.17.
In women's shot put, redshirt senior Meia Gordon finished first among collegiate competition with her throw of 16.31m. Sophomore Faith Ette threw 15.47m, earning second place among collegiate competition. Jones set a personal record in the event, throwing 15.46m and notching third among collegiate competition. Freshman Crislyn Cole took sixth among collegiate competition, a personal-record 13.73m.
On the men's side of the event, junior Cooper Campbell threw 18.63m to win the crown. Senior Bradley Daboub finished second (17.49m) and freshman Bryant Parlin took fifth (15.95m).
Williams finished first among collegiate competition in the men's triple jump, leaping 15.32m.
Sophomore Sydney Dillard earned first in the women's 200-meter dash, clocking in at 25.07. On the men's side, Ellis notched a first-place finish with a 21.81 time. Freshman Alajuwan Robinson took second with a 21.93, while Wheeler finished in fourth at 22.89.
In the men's 4x400-meter relay, Oklahoma team "A" claimed first place, finishing in 3:17.13. Oklahoma "B" finished in third place with a time of 3:21.36.
Junior Rayvon Allen finished second in the men's long jump, leaping 7.56m.
On the track, junior Ackeen Colley notched a first-place finish in the men's 800-meter run, finishing in 1:55.34 overall. Redshirt freshman Joshua Dick clocked in at 1:55.89 to secure third place among collegiate competition and redshirt sophomore Johnelle Joe finished fourth among collegiate competition with his 1:57.29 time.
Freshman Tyler Tickner claimed the Sooners' last individual victory, clocking an 8:52.34 in the men's 3,000-meter run. Redshirt freshman Jordan Gledhill ran an 8:57.76, finishing in fourth place.
In the women's 3,000-meter run, sophomore Elise Boisvert claimed second with her 10:34.31 time. Freshman Carson Hockersmith joined Boisvert in the top 10, recording an 11:07.85 to secure ninth place.
Junior Myah Bowen recorded a 59.13 in the women's 400-meter dash, claiming third place. Freshman Nia Sims finished one spot behind Bowen, finishing in 59.96. Sophomore Cristen Harrison finished in 1:01.16, earning ninth place.
In the women's mile, freshman Madeline Medina took fifth place, crossing the line at 5:23.83. On the men's side of the event, redshirt junior Tucker Desko finished in 4:24.89, securing third place. Freshman Lucas Badcock finished one-spot behind Desko, clocking in at 4:24.91. Redshirt freshman Jordan Gledhill came in ninth with a time of 4:27.02.
Senior Lucas Kelley completed the men's pole vault in third place, clearing 4.55m.
Sophomore Logan Huslig took fifth place in the men's 600 yards, finishing in 1:14.26.
Kubicek took 10th place in the men's high jump, clearing 1.75m.
In the women's 800-meter run, the Sooners had two runners finish in the top 10. Sophomore Jordyn Kaplan claimed ninth place with a 2:26.96, while redshirt sophomore Alison Hepp finished in 2:27.11.
The Sooners will travel back to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 14-15.
