NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams capped day two of the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Ames, Iowa with two event champions and broken school record. The men's squad claimed fourth place with 87 points, while the women took fifth with 72 points.
In the women's high jump, freshman Lavinja Jurgens secured the Sooners' first title of the meet after going into a jump off with TCU's Jillian Johnson. The freshman's 5-11.5 (1.82)m mark improved her spot on OU's all-time performance list from No. 7 up to fifth. Junior Falyn Reaugh joined Jurgens in the top 10, coming in sixth after clearing 5-7.75 (1.72m).
Senior Jackson Webb claimed the Sooners' second title of the meet, taking home the crown in the men's 60-meter dash. Webb clocked in at 6.69, finishing .01 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Junior Joseph Sheffield crossed the line in 6.75, notching a third-place finish.
After two days, sophomore Kristo Simulask completed the men's heptathlon in second place with a personal-best 5,691 points. The sophomore finished in the top four of all day two events, in addition to claiming the school record in the event.
The trio of Sooners competing in the women's shot put went three-four-five in the event. Redshirt senior Meia Gordon led the way with a 52-5.5 (15.99m) throw, taking the third-place spot. Sophomore Faith Ette's 49-10.5 (15.20m) mark earned her the fourth-place finish. Junior Lauren Jones took the Sooners' last spot in the top five, recording a 49-9.75 (15.18m) throw.
On the men's side of the event, junior Cooper Campbell threw 60-4.75 (18.41m), claiming second place. Freshman Diego Trevino and senior Bradley Daboub finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Trevino threw 56-9.25 (17.30m), while Daboub recorded a 56-8 (17.27m) mark.
Redshirt sophomore Vernon Turner cleared 7-1.5 (2.17m) in the men's high jump, earning second place in the event.
The Sooners finished four jumpers in the top 10 of the women's triple jump. Freshman Mikeisha Welcome took second in her Big 12 Indoor Championships triple-jump debut, finishing with a 43-2.25 (15.16m) mark. Junior and school-record holder Essence Thomas followed one spot behind the freshman, leaping 42-11.5 (13.09m). Sophomore Nicole Ezeoke set a personal record in the event, jumping 41-0.5 (12.51m) for eighth place. The last Sooner to claim a spot in the top 10 was redshirt sophomore Nura Muhammad, who took ninth with a 40-11.75 (12.49m) mark.
Junior Jai'Lyn Merriweather earned her second personal record in two days on the women's 600 yards event. Merriweather crossed the line at 1:21.54, shedding almost two seconds off her previous record. The junior claimed fifth place on the event.
In his second event of the day, Sheffield completed the men's 200-meter dash in 21.02. Sheffield's time was good for a personal best, passing his record set yesterday by .01 seconds.
On the track, junior Ackeen Colley crossed the line first for the Sooners in the men's 800-meter run with a 1:50.18. Colley finished the event in fourth place, while redshirt sophomore Johnelle Joe took eighth place with a 1:53.90.
The men's triple-jump squad finished the day with three top-10 finishes from three athletes. Redshirt sophomore Jelaani Davis finished first for the Sooners, earning fifth place with a 51-7 (15.72m) mark. Juniors Garry Williams and Rayvon Allen went back-to-back, earning the eighth and ninth spots, respectively. Williams leaped 50-5.5 (15.38m), while Allen jumped 50-3.5 (15.33m).
Senior Bryce Douglas completed the finals competition of the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.07, clinching sixth place.
On the track, sophomore Kennedy Blackmon completed the women's 400-meter dash finals in 55.28, claiming eighth place. In the women's 200-meter dash, junior Ja'Leesa Giles crossed the line at 24.21, earning seventh place.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team finished in 3:42.86, earning a seventh-place finish. On the men's side of the event, the squad crossed the line at 3:10.18 for sixth place.

The Sooners with qualifying marks will travel to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., March 13-14. The rest of the team will prepare for the start of the outdoor season, beginning with the Baldy Castillo Invitational on March 20-21 in Tempe, Ariz.
