NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis team heads to College Station on Saturday to meet No. 29 Texas A&M.
Last Time Out
The Sooners fell to No. 11 Pepperdine 5-2 last Saturday. OU opened the match with the doubles point, but Pepperdine used four singles wins to claim the match.
In doubles, No. 12
Jasmine Asghar and
Oleksandra Korashvili were the first to finish with a 6-4 win over Jessica Faila and Daria Kuczer.
Ivana Corley and
Carmen Corley clinched the match with a 6-4 victory over Ashley Lahey and Anastasia Iamachkine on the premier court.
Asghar was the lone Sooner to come away with a singles win. The senior took out Daria Kuczer 6-4, 6-3 on court six. Korashvili narrowly fell to No. 36 Iamachkine. Korashvili dropped set one 7-6 (0) before rallying to take the second 7-5 and force 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match. The Waves' Iamachkine came out on top 1-0 (4).
No. 64 Capurro fell to No. 1 Lahey 6-2, 6-4 on court one.
Carmen Corley was defeated by No. 37 Jessica Failla 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 2 line. On court four,
Marcelina Podlinska fell to Astrid Olsen 7-6 (8), 6-2. In the five spot, Romero was defeated by No. 124 Zaar 6-1, 6-2.
Scouting Texas A&M
Texas A&M (8-2) was tabbed No. 29 in the first ITA computer rankings of the season. The Aggies are coming off a double header where they swept Illinois 4-1 and McNeese 7-0 at home on Feb. 14. Texas A&M is undefeated (4-0) at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center this season.
Tatiana Makarova leads the squad with an 8-0 mark in singles. Dorthea Faa-Hviding is right behind Makarova at 7-1. In doubles, Jayci Goldsmith and Makarova are 6-2 at t he top spot.
