Sooners Conclude Tyson Invitational

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams concluded the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. with a shattered school record and numerous personal bests. 

Junior Essence Thomas broke the indoor-school record in the women's triple jump, leaping 43-10.5 (13.37m). Thomas' record jump earned her the crown in the invitational portion of the event. The previous school record was set by teammate freshman Mikeisha Welcome earlier this season. Welcome also competed in the event, jumping 42-7.5 (12.99m) for a fifth-place finish. 

Sophomore Allanah Lee set a personal record in her section of the women's triple jump, recording a 41-4.25 (12.60m) mark. Sophomore Nicole Ezeoke finished two spots behind Lee, setting a personal best jump of 40-11.5 (12.48m). Redshirt sophomore Nura Muhammad joined the pair in the top 10 with a mark of 40-7 (12.37m). 

On the men's side of the event, junior Rayvon Allen claimed fourth place with a jump of 50-1.25 (15.27m). Redshirt sophomore Jelaani Davis and junior Garry Williams competed in the invitational  section of the event, earning second and sixth place among collegiate competition, respectively. Davis leaped 52-0.5 (15.86m), while Williams jumped 51-1.75 (15.59m). 

In the women's shot put, the Sooners had a trio of athletes finish in the top 10. Redshirt senior Meia Gordon led the way with her 52-1.25 (15.88m) throw, claiming fourth place. Sophomore Faith Ette finished in fifth, throwing 50-7.25 (15.42m). Junior Lauren Jones threw 47-1.75 (14.37m), notching a top-10 finish. 

Junior Cooper Campbell threw 61-6.75 (18.76m) in the men's shot put, earning a second-place finish. Senior Bradley Daboub finished just two spots behind Campbell, throwing 58-3.75 (17.77m). The last top-10 spot for the Sooners came from freshman Diego Trevino. Trevino recorded a mark of 52-3.25 (15.93m).

On the track, junior Joseph Sheffield competed in the invitational round of the men's 200-meter dash, clocking in at 21.29. In their respective sections, junior Demarius Smith finished in third with a time of 21.13 while sophomore Quoi Ellis earned a personal record and seventh-place finish, crossing the finish line at 21.41.

On the women's side of the event, junior Dai'Lyn Merriweather clocked in at 24.14 in the invitational section of the event. 

Tyler Phillips claimed second place in the men's 5,000 meters with a time of 14:57.50, while freshman Tyler Tickner earned fifth in his event debut. Tickner completed the event in 15:04.32. Fellow freshman Jordan Gledhill joined the pair in the top 10, recording a 15:43.74 in his 5,000-meter debut.

In the women's high jump invitational, junior Falyn Reaugh cleared 5-9.75 (1.77m), earning fourth place. Freshman Lavinja Jurgens joined three others in fifth place, also clearing 5-9.75 (1.77m). In the event section earlier in the day, sophomore Madison Langley-Walker claimed fourth place with her 5-5.75 (1.67m) mark. 

Redshirt sophomore Vernon Turner cleared 7-1 (2.16m) in the men's high jump invitational, notching fifth place. 

On the field, freshman Elien Vekemans earned fourth place in the women's pole vault invitational, clearing 13-8.5 (4.18m). Redshirt senior Meagan Gray took sixth place with her 13-8.5 (4.18m) mark. Junior Abby Bilsbury and sophomore Gabby Carson shared a part of a fifth-place finish in their section of the women's pole vault. The duo cleared 12-1.5 (3.70m). 

 In the women's 3,000 meters, sophomore Elise Boisvert finished in 10:09.37, claiming an eighth-place finish.

The Sooners will travel to Ames, Iowa for the Big 12 Championships Feb. 28-29.
