Sooners Wrap Up Razorback Invitational

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams concluded the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., with one first-place finish and numerous personal bests on the day. 

Redshirt senior Meia Gordon secured first place in the women's shot put, throwing 53-4.25 (16.26m). Gordon was joined by junior Lauren Jones and sophomore Faith Ette in the event. Jones threw 47-8.5 (14.54m), earning seventh place, while Ette threw 47-3.5 (14.41m), finishing in eighth place. 

The men's shot put squad showed top-10 performances from each Sooner competing in the event. Junior Cooper Campbell led the way, throwing 61-11 (18.87m), which was good for a fourth-place finish. Senior Bradley Daboub came in sixth with a 58-6 (17.83m) throw. Freshman Diego Trevino finished one-spot behind Daboub, throwing 55-2.75 (16.83m). Fellow freshman Bryant Parlin took the the 10th spot with his throw of 52-5.25 (15.98m).

On the track, Tyler Phillips set a personal record in the men's 3,000 meter-run, clocking in at 8:37.62.

In the men's 400-meter dash, sophomore Caleb Johnson set a personal-record time of 49.03. Johnson was joined by teammate junior Ackeen Colley in the event. Colley finished in 49.46.

Redshirt junior Tucker Desko set a personal record in the men's mile, clocking in at 4:13.60. Desko's time was good for a seventh-place finish. 

Redshirt sophomore Jelaani Davis claimed fourth place in the men's triple jump, in addition to earning the No. 8 spot on OU's all-time performance list. Davis jumped 51-10 (15.80m), setting a personal record. Junior Rayvon Allen leaped 50-9.25 (15.47m), setting his own personal record. Allen finished in seventh place. 

School-record holder freshman Mikeisha Welcome took fifth in the women's triple jump. Welcome leaped 42-8.25 (13.01m), while sophomore Allanah Lee jumped 40-9 (12.42m).

The Sooners advanced four athletes to the men's 60-meter dash prelims. In the qualifying round, senior Jackson Webb crossed the line first for OU, finishing in 6.773. Webb's time was good for third place. Junior Demarius Smith finished one-spot behind Webb, clocking in at 6.78. Sophomore Quoi Ellis set a personal record in the qualifying round, finishing in 6.84 and moving on to the prelims. The last Sooner to advance to the second round of competition was junior Joseph Sheffield. Sheffield finished the race in 6.89. Freshman Alajuwan Robinson finished in 6.971. In the preliminary round, Smith crossed the line at 6.748, earning seventh place and a spot in the finals. The junior finished the finals in 6.78, notching sixth place.

On the women's side of the 60-meter dash, senior Amanda Van Buren advanced to the prelims, completing the race in 7.67. In the preliminary round, the senior finished in 7.628. 

OU's redshirt sophomore Johnelle Joe set a personal record and notched a fifth-place finish in the men's 800-meter run. Joe crossed the line in 1:52.32. The redshirt sophomore was joined by redshirt freshman Joshua Dick in the event. Dick finished the race in 1:53.58. On the women's side of the event, freshman Levi Gladd completed the race in 2:21.99.

On the track, junior Jai'Lyn Merriweather was the lone Sooner in the invitational section of the women's 400-meter dash. Merriweather clocked in at 55.97, finishing in 10th place.

Redshirt sophomore Isaiah Levingston notched a 10th-place finish in the preliminary round of the men's 60-meter hurdles. Levingston completed the race in 8.05, while senior Bryce Douglas crossed the line at 8.08. Junior Garry Williams finished in 8.47. On the women's side, Camri Austin finished in 8.5, taking 10th place.

The latter portion of the heptathlon concluded with sophomore Kristo Simulask taking fifth place, scoring a personal-best 5,664 points. The event continued from day one with the 60-meter hurdles, where the sophomore crossed the line at 8.43, finishing in 10th place. Simulask completed the pole vault portion by clearing 14-9 (4.50m), notching a seventh-place finish. In the last event, the Sooner completed the 1,000 meters in 2:45.17, earning eighth place.

The Sooners' men's 4x400-meter relay team came in at 3:13.15, finishing in seventh place. The women finished in 3:43.32, notching an eighth-place finish.

The Sooners will host the J.D. Martin Invitational in the Mosier Indoor Facility in Norman, Okla., next Saturday, Feb. 8.
