OU Concludes Day One of Razorback Invite

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams concluded day one of the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday with numerous top-five finishes and several personal bests. 

Redshirt sophomore Vernon Turner secured a third-place finish in the men's high jump, clearing 7-3.25 (2.22m). On the women's side of the event, junior Falyn Reaugh cleared 5-8.75 (1.75m), earning fifth place. 

In women's long jump, junior Essence Thomas jumped 20-7.25 (6.28m), earning third place. Thomas was joined by teammate sophomore Symone Washington in the top five. Washington came in fifth, leaping 20-2.5 (6.16m). Redshirt sophomore Nura Muhammad jumped 19-2.5 (5.85m). On the men's side, junior Garry Williams set a personal record, leaping 24-1.5 (7.35m). Junior Rayvon Allen jumped 23-6.25 (7.17m), while sophomore Golden Eke reached 21-10.75 (6.67m).

Freshman Elien Vekemans finished third in the women's pole vault, clearing 13-8.25 (4.17m). Redshirt senior Meagan Gray cleared 13-0.25 (3.97m), while sophomore Gabby Carson cleared 12.05 (3.67m). Junior Abby Bilsbury went over the bar at 11-6.5 (3.52m).

Junior Lauren Jones set a personal record in the women's weight throw, throwing 61-4 (18.69m). Jones' throw improved her distance on OU's all-time record book at seventh. Freshman Geraldine Udo threw 52-7.5 (16.04m). On the men's side, junior Edward Jeans was the lone Sooner competing in the men's weight throw. Jeans threw 59-3.5 (18.07m), notching a ninth-place finish.

On the track, junior Demarius Smith completed the men's 200-meter dash with a personal record. Smith clocked in at 21.23, finishing in ninth place. The junior's time was enough to put him in the 10th spot on OU's all-time record book. Smith was joined by junior Joseph Sheffield and freshman Alajuwan Robinson in the race. Sheffield finished in 21.52, while Robinson crossed the line at 21.99.

In the women's 200-meter dash, junior Dai'Lyn Merriweather clocked in at 23.94, while sophomore Kennedy Blackmon crossed the line at 24.25. Senior Amanda Van Buren finished the race in 24.47, while junior Ja'Leesa Giles finished one-spot behind Van Buren, clocking in at 24.47.

In the heptathlon, the Sooners showed performances from two squad members. The multi event began with the 60-meter dash where freshman Eli Darrough clocked in at 7.097, which was good for a ninth-place finish. Sophomore Kristo Simulask finished one spot behind Darrough, recording a time of 7.11. In the long jump, Simulask leaped 23-6 (7.16m), earning fifth place. Darrough jumped 20-10 (6.33m) in the event. The sophomore notched a top-10 finish in shot put, throwing 45-5.75 (13.86m), while the freshman threw for 37-3.75 (11.37m). The last heptathlon event of day one was the high jump, where Simulask cleared 6-6.25 (1.99m), earning a fifth-place finish. Darrough cleared 5-6.5 (1.69m). Simulask concluded day one in fifth place with 3,210 points, while Darrough finished with 2,615 points.

On the women's side of the multi events, freshman Lavinja Jurgens and sophomore Madison Langley-Walker competed in the pentathlon. Langley-Walker recorded a 60-meter hurdles time of 8.69, earning her seventh place, while Jurgens clocked in at 9.27. Jurgens notched a first-place finish in the high jump portion of the event, clearing 5-10 (1.78m). Langley-Walker joined Jurgens in the top-10, clearing 5-7.75 (1.72m), which was good for seventh place. In the shot put, Jurgens threw 30-9.25 (9.38m), while Langley-Walker threw 29-5.5 (8.98m). The freshman completed the long jump in the 10th spot, leaping 18-4.25 (5.59m), while Langley-Walker jumped 17-7.5 (5.37m). In the last pentathlon event, Jurgens completed the 800-meter dash in 2:24.69, notching seventh place. Langley-Walker clocked in at 2:33.56. Jurgens concluded the event in 10th place with 3,783 points, while Langley-Walker finished with 3,630 points.
