NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams continue indoor action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31- Feb. 1, at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
"We're looking forward to going to Arkansas this weekend and looking forward to the competition the meet is going to bring," said interim head coach Tim Langford. "I am excited about the weekend and watching the student-athletes become who they truly are."
The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. CT on Friday with heptathlon and pentathlon events, before the running events get going at 6:25 p.m. The meet will be on a rolling schedule beginning at 10:40 a.m. on Saturday. A total of 49 Sooners are expected to compete. The squads are set to face Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kansas State, Kent State, LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Purdue, Stanford and Texas in the slate of events.
OU notched 10-individual victories in addition to several personal bests at the Mark Colligan Memorial in Lincoln, Neb. on Jan. 25. Six of the Sooners' 10 victories came in field events. For the second week in a row, junior Essence Thomas and redshirt sophomore Vernon Turner secured the crowns in their respective events. Sophomore Madison Langley-Walker and junior Joseph Sheffield both earned first-place finishes in addition to setting personal records in their events.
"Arkansas is an awesome venue and is known to be historically fast and will give our kids the opportunity to take advantage of it," continued Langford.
