BROOKINGS, S.D. -Ā The Oklahoma wrestling team (3-4 overall, 1-3Ā Big 12) closed out its road trip through North and South Dakota with a loss toĀ the SouthĀ Dakota State JackrabbitsĀ (7-4Ā overall,Ā 4-2Ā Big 12), 23-16, at Frost ArenaĀ in Brookings, S.D., on Sunday afternoon.Ā The Sooners claimed four of the dual's matches, while SDSU pulled away with six victories.Ā

Justin Thomas gave the Sooners a quick 4-0 lead with a victory in the 157-pound match. The redshirtĀ sophomore built a 10-0 lead in the first period alone, before adding six more and claiming the 16-3 major decision over SDSU's Colten Carlson. It was Thomas' sixth dual victory in OU's seven duals on the year, and his third major decision on the campaign.Ā
The Jackrabbits responded quickly, with 165-pounder Tanner Cook pinning OU true freshman Jose Lao Coooper in 40 seconds and giving the home team a 6-4 advantage.Ā
At 174, No. 10
Anthony MantanonaĀ picked up his second pin in as many duals and extended his team lead with nine in his redshirt sophomore season. Mantanona jumped out to an 11-0 lead early in the second period before pinning SDSU'sĀ Cade King 5:39 into the bout.
The Palm Desert, Calif., native is the lone Sooner still undefeated in dual action, sitting at 7-0, andĀ five of Mantanona's last seven victories, including dual and tournament competition, have comeĀ via fall.Ā
The Sooners dropped the next four matches to South Dakota State, beginning with No. 16 Zach Carlson's 10-0 major decision of OU'sĀ
Darrien Roberts in the 184-pound bout. At 197, No. 14
Jake Woodley and No. 19 Tanner Sloan put together one of the dual's most exciting matches. Trailing 3-2 entering the third period, WoodleyĀ fought hard to secure a takedown, but Sloan withstood the test and took the bout by decision, 4-2, after the riding time point was added, giving SDSU a 13-10 lead.Ā
OU dropped another thriller in the heavyweight matchup, with
Josiah Jones and SDSU's Blake WoltersĀ needing extra time to settle the bout. After trading escapes in both tiebreaker periods, WoltersĀ won the match with :29 of riding time, 4-3.Ā
At 125, senior
Christian Moody dropped a major decision to No. 25 Danny Vega, 13-4, allowing SDSU to open its largest lead of the day at 20-10.Ā
In the next pair of matches, the Sooners were able to cut into the 10-point deficit. No. 17
Anthony Madrigal shutout Zach Price, 6-0, at 133, while No. 7
Dom Demas earned his 18th win of his redshirt sophomore campaign at 141 pounds. Demas opened the match with a first-period takedown and a four-point nearfall to jump ahead 6-0. The redshirt sophomore and reigning Big 12 champion held on for an 8-2 decision, cutting the Jackrabbit lead to 20-16.Ā
In the dual's second top-25 matchup, SDSU's No. 10 Henry Pohlmeyer outlasted No. 25
Jacob Butler, 7-2, to bring the final score to 23-16.Ā
