NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams are set to continue indoor action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 17-18, at the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT on Friday with the field events before the track events kick off at 7 p.m. The meet will be on a rolling schedule beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday. A total of 54 Sooners are scheduled to compete.
"Our team is really excited to compete this weekend in the Vanderbilt Invitational," said OU interim head coach Tim Langford. "We expect to compete against a great field as we look to pick up where we left off in December."
The Sooners began the 2019-20 season at the Kansas State Winter Invitational on Dec. 14, 2019, collecting nine victories, one school record and numerous personal bests. Five of the Sooners' nine victories came on the track, while four came in field events. Mikeisha Welcome broke the OU school record in the indoor women's triple jump in her Sooner debut, with a leap of 43-9.75 (13.35m). The freshman was named the women's Division I National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the first Sooner to win the award during indoor season in program history.
"I believe that seeing the results of December's meet provided added motivation for our teams to continue their progress over the holiday," continued Langford. "Especially since we changed the record books, our all-time top 10 list and so many personal records in that meet with a limited travel squad. I believe this weekend could be more of the same for us."
Live results from the Vanderbilt Invite will be available through CFPI Timing.
