Gordon, Glaywulu Sweep Big 12 Weekly Honors

NORMAN – Two University of Oklahoma track and field student-athletes combined to sweep the Big 12 Athlete of the Week honors, announced Wednesday by the conference.

In his first meet of the 2019 outdoor season, OU sophomore Papay Glaywulu leapt a PR 53-10.25 (16.41m) to claim the men's triple jump crown at the Roadrunner Invitational in San Antonio and win Big 12 men's Athlete of the Week. Glaywulu's mark currently ranks as the top triple jump of the NCAA outdoor season.

Oklahoma redshirt junior Meia Gordon took home two victories for the second consecutive week of the 2019 outdoor season over the weekend in San Antonio to claim the women's honor. Gordon notched her first win of the meet in the women's shot put with a toss of 51-9.85 (15.79m) before taking the women's discus crown with a throw of 168-9 (51.43m). The Sooner has claimed four wins in four events she has competed this outdoor season.

It is the first Big 12 weekly honor for both Glaywulu and Gordon and the first outdoor men's weekly honor for the Sooners since 2015.

The Sooners are back in action tomorrow through Saturday at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. Competition began today with the men's and women's multi events starting. Action resumes tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. CT for OU. Glaywulu and Gordon will compete at respective times of 3 p.m. on Friday (men's triple jump) and 1:30 p.m. (women's discus) and 4 p.m. (women's shot put) on Saturday.

Some Sooners will also head to Los Angeles to compete at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival hosted by UCLA, beginning Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. CT.
