LUBBOCK, Texas – In the weekend finale, the No. 2/2 Oklahoma softball team earned a 13-1, six-inning victory over No. 14/12 Texas Tech to sweep the series on Sunday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field.

With the win, the Sooners (29-2, 3-0 Big 12) have now won 28 consecutive Big 12 conference games, extending their program record streak.

Oklahoma is on a 19-game winning streak and has run-ruled 14 opponents in 2019.

“They wanted to go out with a bang,” OU head coach Patty Gasso said. “They want a sweep, and they want that everywhere they go. That's part of the 'Championship Mindset,' and they're really living it right now. I'm really proud of what they're doing.

“Throughout the lineup, these guys are having some really quality at-bats,” she continued. “We're playing really good softball right now.”

OU's offense was led by Shay Knighten, who matched a career high with four hits. She scored two runs, drove in two and hit a home run.

Overall, the Sooners hit four home runs for the second day in a row. Joining Knighten in going out of the park were Sydney Romero, Grace Green and Jocelyn Alo

Romero, Alo and Caleigh Clifton all finished with two hits. Alo had three RBIs while Romero had two.

Oklahoma went on top early, leading off the game by loading the bases. Knighten took advantage, driving a single to right center to plate Romero. Green then hit a sacrifice fly to bring Falepolima Aviu home.

With a runner on first in the third, Clifton doubled to right field. A throwing error then provided Romero the space to reach home.

Clifton reached third on a single from Knighten, and she scored when  Alo doubled to right.

Sophomore Lynnsie Elam led off the fourth with a double before reaching third on a wild pitch. Romero hit a sacrifice fly to center to plate Elam, marking Romero's 11th career sac fly to tie her for second in program history.

The game's next nine runs came from homers. Knighten opened the fifth with a bomb to left, her fifth of her season and the 37th of her career.

After Green drew a walk, Jocelyn Alo crushed her fifth homer of the season, a no-doubt shot over the right-field wall to give OU an 8-0 advantage.

The Red Raiders kept the game alive in the bottom of the frame as Morgan Hornback pinch hit a two-out, solo homer to left.

Romero responded in the top of the sixth with a lead-off homer to left. It was her 45th career home run, putting her in outright ninth place in OU records.

Aviu and Knighten both singled while Clifton was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Green seized the opportunity, crushing her first career grand slam to make it a 13-1 game.

In the circle, Giselle Juarez improved to 13-0 on the year. She threw 5.1 shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four.

Nicole Mendes threw .2 innings, allowing one run on one hit.

Up next, OU returns home on Wednesday to face in-state rival Tulsa at 6 p.m. CT.
