NORMAN – The No. 2/2 Oklahoma softball team pushed its win streak to 20 with a 10-1 win over Tulsa in five innings at Marita Hynes Field on Wednesday night.

The 20-game win streak marks the seventh time in program history that Oklahoma has strung together at least 20 straight victories. It ties for the sixth-longest win streak in OU annals, and the Sooners have outscored their opponents 160-16 during the 2019 streak.

The Sooners (30-2) hit four home runs for the third consecutive game to earn their 15th run-rule win of 2019.

“It was just a really good, well-rounded game: (they were) attacking early offensively and explosive,” OU head coach Patty Gasso said. “Whether it's balls going over the fence or hard ground balls, it was just (very balanced).”

Sydney Romero went 2-for-3 at the plate with both of her hits leaving the park, marking the second game of her career with multiple home runs. She finished with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Grace Green and Grace Lyons also homered in the contest. Green finished with three hits, three RBIs and a run.

Shay Knighten registered a pair of hits, and Nicole Mendes tallied a pair of RBIs.

Oklahoma took an early lead with two runs in the first, taking advantage of three fielding errors by the Golden Hurricane (21-10). Caleigh Clifton scored after a throwing error before Jocelyn Alo drew a walk to load the bases. Nicole Mendes also walked to bring Knighten home.

The Sooners scored five runs in the second, sparked by back-to-back homers from Lyons and Romero to open the frame. It marked the fourth time this season that two Sooners hit consecutive home runs; most recently, Lyons combined with Lynnsie Elam against Northwestern on March 10.

With runners on the corners, Knighten singled through the left side to drive in Falepolima Aviu. Green then plated Clifton with a single of her own, and Knighten scored after a sacrifice fly from Mendes.

Romero opened the third with a home run to right field. She now owns 47 career homers, which is tied with former teammate Nicole Pendley for seventh-most in program history. It was also her 13th homer of the season, which is the highest total for a single season during her career.

After a scoreless fourth, the Golden Hurricane kept the game alive with a run in the top of the fifth.

The Sooners responded by clinching the game in walk-off fashion. After Aviu drew a walk, Green crushed her eighth home run of the season to left center to end the game, marking her fourth homer in the last three games.

Giselle Juarez remained undefeated in the circle, improving to 14-0 on the year. She allowed just one hit while striking out five over 3.2 innings.

Mariah Lopez closed the final 1.1 frames, surrendering one run on four hits with one strikeout.

Up next, Oklahoma continues a brief break from conference play as it heads to Salt Lake City for two games at Utah March 30-31.
