Four Sooners Place at Cliff Keen Invite

LAS VEGAS - Four Sooners placed as the No. 18/20/20 OklahomaĀ wrestling team wrapped up the prestigiousĀ Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev., on Saturday.

At 141 pounds, No. 2/2/2 (Flo/InterMat/Track) Dom Demas began the day in the 141-pound semifinals after going 3-0 on Friday. The redshirt sophomore dropped a close match with No. 4/4/5 Mitchell McKee (Minnesota), 5-2. DemasĀ earned a 16-7 major decision over No. NR/NR/30 Michael Blockhus (Northern Iowa) in the consolation semifinals before defeating Iowa State's No. 13/13/13 Ian Parker via tech fall, 19-4 (5:05) in the third-place match.Ā With a 5-1 record on the weekend, the 2018-19 All-American moves to 14-2 on the season.Ā 

No. 16/16/11Ā Jake WoodleyĀ (197)Ā also opened Saturday with a semifinal appearance, taking Purdue's No. 19/17/17 Christian BrunnerĀ to the wire but falling 2-1 after riding time was added. Woodley upset No. 6/10/10 Eric Schultz (Nebraska), 3-2, in the consolation semifinals. Woodley's late comeback attempt in the third-place match fell short against Cal Poly's No. 10/12/8 Thomas Lane, as he fell, 4-2, to claim fourth place at 197.Ā 

At 133,Ā No. 13/15/14 Anthony Madrigal picked a pair of victories over ranked opponents on his way to a seventh-place finish. The sophomore shutout No. 18/NR/21 Collin Gerardi (Virginia Tech), 7-0, in the second consolation round of eight. In the first consolation round of four, Northern Colorado's Mosha Schwartz topped Madrigal in a 7-5 decision. In a rematch from Nov. 16's Kent State Tri, Madrigal once again got the best of Kent State's No. 20/20/25, 3-1, with a takedown in sudden-victory overtime of the seventh-place bout.Ā .

After a 16-5 major decision over Northern Iowa's Keaton Geerts,Ā No. 20/14/17 Justin Thomas (157) recorded an 8-4 victory against No. 22/NR/19 Jacori Teemer (Arizona State). In the second consolation round of four, Thomas was defeated by Purdue's No. 7/8/7 Kendall Coleman, 5-2. Thomas advanced to the fifth-place match, but earned sixth place after a medical forfeit.Ā 

No. 14/NR/21 Anthony MantanonaĀ was pinned by No. 12/15/11 Brandon Womack (Cornell) in the 174-pound second consolation round of eight to bring his run in the tournament to an end.Ā 

Overall, the Sooners collected 66.5Ā points as a team, finishing in tenthĀ place.Ā
