NORMAN – No. 21/22/22 (FloWrestling/InterMat/Trackwrestling) Oklahoma (1-1) hosts No. 9/8/10 Oklahoma State (3-1) Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. in McCasland Field House for the first dual of a home-and-home Bedlam series this season.
Four Sooners placed at last weekend's Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. Dom Demas (141) took third place, Jake Woodley (197) brought home seventh place, Justin Thomas (157) earned sixth and Anthony Madrigal (133) recorded a seventh-place finish.
At 141, Demas went 5-1 on the weekend, collecting a fall, two tech falls and a major decision en route to the third-place finish. Demas' only loss came to the nation's fourth-ranked wrestler, Minnesota's Mitchell McKee, in a tight 5-2 decision.
Woodley claimed third place after knocking off a pair of top-12 opponents: No. 11 Tanner Sloan (South Dakota State) and No. 6 Eric Schultz (Nebraska). The redshirt sophomore enters his Bedlam match with No. 6 Dakota Geer after competing in four straight top-25 bouts to end last weekend, going 2-2.
The Sooners return four of five 2018-19 NCAA qualifiers to this season's starting lineup: Christian Moody (125), Dom Demas (141), Justin Thomas (157) and Jake Woodley (197).
OU's returning qualifiers are off to a hot start on the season, combining for a 37-19 record. In the Sooners' first pair of duals at the Kent State Tri meet, Demas, Thomas and Woodley finished a combined 6-0.
In addition to the four returning qualifiers, Anthony Madrigal (133) and Anthony Mantanona (174) have both been solid veterans for the Oklahoma squad. Madrigal (12-5) has gone 8-1 against ranked opponents, defeating Nos. 10, 11, 12, 15, 17, 18, 20 and 25. Mantanona (10-4) leads the team in victories via fall with six pins, all in 3:16 or less.
Redshirt sophomore Dom Demas (141) has carried the momentum from his All-American redshirt freshman season into the 2019-20 campaign. The reigning Big 12 champion is 2-0 in OU's first duals and has earned top-three finishes at all three tournaments: second place at the Michigan State Open, first place at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic and third place at the Cliff Keen Invitational. The Columbus, Ohio, native leads the team in wins with 14 and technical falls with five.
