NORMAN – Oklahoma women's tennis head coach
Audra Cohen and the Sooners welcomed Dana Guzman to the program Thursday at the beginning of the early signing period.
Guzman, who hails from Arequipa, Peru, joins Carmen Corley in the 2020 signing class. Guzman has climbed as high as No. 58 in the ITF junior rankings and owns a high UTR of 11.44.
"Dana is a great competitor with an impressive tennis IQ," said Cohen. "She grew up playing mostly on red clay where she learned how to use the whole court effectively on both offense and defense. Her anticipation and craftiness is unlike most juniors and this makes her difficult to beat. She will continue to improve as she becomes a stronger and more physical player."
This summer, Guzman represented her country at the Pan American Games and was part of the Peruvian team that defeated Canada. "Dana is coming in with a lot of team match play experience," said Cohen. "She is going to thrive in the team environment."
The Sooners will return to the court in January for spring duals. A schedule will be released at a later date.
