Corley lead

Sooners Ink Carmen Corley for January

November 14, 2019 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN – Oklahoma women's tennis head coach Audra Cohen and the Sooners welcomed Carmen Corley to the program Thursday at the beginning of the early signing period.

" Carmen is a fearless competitor with a powerful game and no ceiling," said Cohen. "She is one of the few Blue Chip juniors with a complete all-court game that can hit big off the baseline and also transition to the net comfortably. She has proven that she has the level to have an immediate impact on our singles and doubles lineups, all while still having a lot of room to grow."

Corley will join the Sooners in January as a midyear enrollee. The Albuquerque, N.M., native comes to Oklahoma as a Blue Chip recruit, has been rated as high as No. 9 nationally by tennisrecruiting.net and is the No. 1 recruit out of New Mexico, as well as No. 3 in the Southwest.

Corley owns a 10.99 UTR and has career-high ITF ranking of No. 858.

Corley won the 2019 USTA Southwest Closed Regional Tournament without dropping a set. Corley took home the singles and doubles titles at the 2019 ITA Summer Circuit Championships in Denver; a doubles title in Tyler, Texas; placed seventh at National Hard Courts; and most recently, advanced through qualifying to the quarterfinals at the ITF Norman 15k.

Corley is the younger sister of current Sooner Ivana Corley, who is a sophomore on the OU women's tennis team.

"We are extremely excited for Carmen to join her sister and our Sooner family,"  Cohen said. "Like her sister Ivana, Carmen is an excellent student with a strong character, which is a testament to the strong Corley family values. We are excited to help Carmen grow as a person and a player while wearing Crimson and Cream."
The Sooners will return to the court in January for spring duals. A schedule will be released at a later date.
