NORMAN - The Oklahoma track and field teams kick off their 2019-20 indoor campaign on Saturday at the Kansas State Winter Invitational in Manhattan, Kan.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. CT with the field events before the track events get going at 1:30 p.m. The meet will be on a rolling schedule throughout Saturday. A total of 38 Sooners are slated to compete in the season opener.
"I'm really excited," said OU interim head coach Tim Langford. "Going into the opener, I think a lot of our kids are looking forward to seeing where they are after an entire semester of training. Just to show what we've been working on. That's the coaches' mindset going into the first meet, too. It'll give us some confidence and reaffirmation about what we need to do and make sure we're on pace to be where we need to be come championship time."
"A little bit of excitement, positive energy and a little bit of nervous energy. I think this weekend is going to be great and I expect us to put out some performances that we'll be excited about." - Tim Langford
OU returns two NCAA Indoors qualifiers for 2019-20 in sophomore Kristo Simulask (heptathlon) and junior Falyn Reaugh (high jump), along with 2019 Big 12 Indoor champion in the women's shot put, senior Meia Gordon. The Sooners boast 13 seniors across the men's and women's teams for indoor season.Ā
"The early indicators are always exciting for us," continued Langford. "We have some freshmen that are opening for the first time and we have some seniors that are opening up for the last time. It's going to be great.
"Obviously my first time with the program in competition. I've been looking forward to it. A little bit of excitement, positive energy and a little bit of nervous energy. I think this weekend is going to be great and I expect us to put out some performances that we'll be excited about."
