Low Scores Position Sooners in Fourth

NORMAN – Oklahoma carded the second-lowest team round in program history on Sunday, shooting a 274 (-14) in the first round of the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas. The Sooners are in fourth place after scoring a 287 (-1) in the afternoon round of the par-72, 6,033-yard Kissing Tree Golf Club.
Two Sooners sit in the top five of the individual standings as OU (561, -15) enters Monday's final round nine shots behind co-leaders Texas Tech and Ole Miss (552, -24).
Junior Kaitlin Milligan is tied for first place with three other golfers at 8-under (136). The Norman native fired a 64 (-8) in the opening round, which is tied for the second-best round score in program history. Milligan already owns the school record of 62, set in her freshman season at the Westbrook Invitational.
Fellow OU junior Sydney Youngblood is one stroke back (137, -7) in a four-way tie for fifth place. Youngblood produced round scores of 67 (-5) and 70 (-2).
"This is a process and we have to take it one round at a time as we continue the constant climb," said OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "We are in a good spot after two rounds and need to believe in ourselves."
Freshman Libby Winans is tied for 33rd with a combined score of 143 (-1) while sophomore Mikhaela Fortuna is in 43rd with a 145 (+1). Senior Ellen Secor shot a 151 (+7).
The Sooners will tee off for the final round with a shotgun start on Monday morning at 8:30. Oklahoma will be paired with golfers from Texas State and TCU.
