OKLAHOMA CITY – Three Oklahoma softball alumni will in participate the USA Softball Women's Olympic Team Selection Trials held October 2-6 at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City.
Shelby Pendley ('15),
Keilani Ricketts ('13) and
Sydney Romero ('19) will be among the 29 players vying for a spot on the 2020 USA Softball Women's Olympic Team roster that will compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in addition to select tour stops as part of the Stand Beside Her Tour.
Pendley and Ricketts were members of the USA Softball coalition that captured the gold at the 2019 Pan American Games to qualify for Tokyo 2020.
Ricketts was a four-time All-American for the Sooners while Pendley earned three All-America honors. The duo led OU to four Big 12 titles from 2012-15 and the 2013 National Championship.
Romero was a member of the 2015 Junior Women's National Team, securing the 2015 WBSC Junior Women's World Championship gold.
Romero completed her OU career as a two-time All-American and a four-time All-Big 12 selection. Romero led the Sooners to four straight Big 12 championships from 2016-19 and back-to-back National Championships in 2016 and 2017.
The USA Softball Women's Olympic Team Selection Trials invitee list includes current and former student-athletes from four athletic conferences: Big 10 (two), Big 12 (four), SEC (10) and Pac-12 (13). Together, they represent 14 NCAA Division I universities. Of the athletes invited, 10 have won one or more NCAA Women's College World Series (WCWS) National Championships with their respective university, while four have garnered USA Softball Player of the Year honors at least once during their career.
During the selection process, athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and be evaluated by the USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC) in accordance with the Athlete Selection Procedures approved by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC).

The roster for the 2020 USA Softball WNT will be announced at the conclusion of the Selection Trials and a press conference featuring the 2020 roster will be held on the morning of October 8.
The U.S. Women's Olympic Team will be coached by Ken Eriksen (Tampa, Fla./Head Coach at South Florida) pending approval by the USOPC.
