Sooners Complete Second Round in Stillwater
May 19, 2018 | Women's Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma carded a 303 (+15) in the second round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships on Saturday at the par-72, 6,328-yard Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
The middle of the 24-team field is tight heading into Sunday's round, which will cut the field to the top 15 teams at its conclusion. The Sooners sit in a tie for 19th place and are three strokes out of 15th place, but 10 teams from the 12 to 21 position are within six strokes of one another.
"Right now we just need to focus on what we did coming down the stretch," said OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “There's still quite a bit of golf left for team golf. Right now the cut is three strokes, which in team golf can be caught up to quickly."
Junior Julienne Soo ended her round with an eagle on hole No. 9, reaching the green in two shots on the 490-yard par 5 followed by a five-foot putt. Soo shot an even-par 72 and was one of only 29 golfers in the 132-person field to finish the day at even or better.
Soo sits in a tie for 30th place through 36 holes with a two-day score of 148 (+4). Three golfers are tied for first place at 139 (-5), but Soo is only five strokes shy of the top eight.
"It was good to end the day like that," said Soo. "I think for the whole team tomorrow, we just need to crunch down and see what we can do. We'll need to fight."
Senior Hannah Wood, redshirt freshman Sydney Youngblood and freshman Kaitlin Milligan all recorded a 77 (+5) on Saturday while senior Valerie Tanguay totaled an 80 (+8).
The Sooners tee off in the third round on Sunday at 1:21 p.m. CT and will be paired with golfers from Arizona State and Auburn. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
Admission to the NCAA Championships is $10 per round, or $30 for an all-session pass, and can be purchased on site or at NCAA.com/tickets.
