NORMAN —The University of Oklahoma track and field team concluded competition Saturday at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Sooners bring back five event titles to Norman, highlighted by three wins in women's throws events and a program-record time in the women's steeplechase by senior Sarah Scott.
The meet began Friday with the men's and women's hammer throw. In the women's hammer competition, senior Ashley Bryant won the event with a PR throw of 215-4 (65.64 meters). Other OU finishers in the women's hammer included Lauren Jones placing ninth and Camille Burge finishing 12th with respective throws of 168-4 (51.30 meters) and 157-4 (47.96 meters).
Friday's remaining events were pushed back to Saturday due to inclement weather.
Saturday's action began with the 5,000 meters. In the men's 5,000 meters, two Sooners took home top-five finishes, with senior Eric Alldritt taking second with a time of 14:39.89 and sophomore Liam Meirow placing fifth in 14:43.87.
The Sooners claimed their second title of the weekend in the women's discus. Senior Jess Woodard won the event with a throw of 170-10 (52.08 meters). Taking second in the women's discus was sophomore Meia Gordon with a mark of 169-7 (51.68 meters). Lauren Jones finished 11th with a throw of 150-6 (45.87 meters).
In the men's discus, sophomore Brad Daboub took fifth with a throw of 164-4 (50.08 meters) while Cooper Campbell finished 11th with a 139-0 (42.37 meters) mark.
An OU program record fell on Saturday when senior Sarah Scott won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The senior finished in a personal best time of 10:16.00 to win the title and record the fastest time in OU history in the event.
Another program top-10 mark was replaced by freshman Camri Austin. Austin won the women's 100-meter hurdles with a PR time of 13.64 seconds that is good for eighth in Sooners' history. In the men's 110-meter hurdles, senior Steven Jazdyk won his heat and placed eighth overall with a time of 15.11 seconds.
The Sooners took three of the top five spots in the women's 400-meter dash. Senior Ama Pipi took the title with a time of 53.50. Fellow seniors Medinah Spencer and Mia Mukes placed third and fourth, with respective times of 54.49 and 54.51. Freshman Evette Blanks finished 12th in 56.09 seconds. Running in the 100-meter dash, freshman Camri Austin finished 10th in 12.09 seconds. Sophomore Amanda Van Buren and freshman Ja'Leesa Giles placed 12th and 13th, respectively, both crossing the line in 12.10.
OU recorded two top-five finishes in the weekend's high jump competition. Freshman Falyn Reaugh took third in the women's high jump, clearing 5-7 (1.70 meters). On the men's side, freshman Vernon Turner also placed third, clearing 6-10.75 (2.10 meters).
In the men's 100-meter dash, sophomores Xavier Brown and Jackson Webb finished sixth and 11th, respectively, with times of 10.52 and 10.64.
Senior Thomas Cheval brought home a third-place finish in the men's long jump with a jump of 22-10 (6.96 meters). Freshman Papay Glaywulu placed 14th with a mark of 20-11.75 (6.39 meters).
In the weekend's pole vault competition, two Sooners recorded top-five finishes. Freshman Abby Bilsbury cleared a personal best 12-2.50 (3.72 meters) to take third in the women's pole vault. In the men's competition, sophomore Lucas Kelley placed fourth, clearing 14-11 (4.55 meters).
Running in the women's 800 meters, senior Cece Moore finished ninth in a time of 2:15.59 while junior Hayley Redwine placed 14th, finishing in 2:19.91. In the men's 800 meters, freshman Trent Hamner recorded a top-ten finish, placing ninth in a time of 1:56.45.
Freshman Isaiah Levingston took fifth out of collegiate competitors in the men's 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 54.60 seconds.
Competing in the women's triple jump competition, freshman Essence Thomas took home third place with a jump of 39-6 (12.04 meters). In the men's triple jump, junior Greg Vann finished sixth with a PR jump of 47-4.25 (14.43 meters).
Three Sooners' recorded top-10 finishes out of collegiate competition in the women's 200-meter dash. Senior Leya Buchanan placed first out of collegiate competitors with a time of 23.58. Freshman Ja'Leesa Giles and senior Mia Mukes took fifth and sixth with respective times of 24.14 and 24.38.
In the men's 1,500-meter invite, sophomores Heath Warren and Calvin Miller placed eighth and 11th, respectively, with times of 3:56.17 and 4:04.69.
The Sooners' fifth title of the weekend came in the women's shot put courtesy of senior Jess Woodard. Woodard won the event title with a throw of 57-2.75 (17.44 meters). Sophomore Meia Gordon placed second with a mark of 51-2.75 (15.61 meters).
OU saw two top-five finishes in the men's shot put. Sophomore Brad Daboub took fourth with a throw of 57-9 (17.60 meters), while freshman Cooper Campbell finished fifth, his best throw measuring 56-8.5 (17.28 meters).
In the weekend's javelin events, sophomore Gabby Kearney finished second in the women's competition with a throw of 155-8 (47.46 meters). Freshman Josh Haus took fifth in the men's javelin with a throw of 182-8 (55.68 meters).
The final event of the meet, the men's 4x400-meter relay, saw the Oklahoma 'A' 4x4 squad
The Sooners return to the track April 20-21 when they host the annual John Jacobs Invitational in Norman. Admission to the meet at the John Jacobs Track Complex is free.
