Woodard Repeats as All-American

EUGENE, Ore. — The highlight of the day Thursday belonged to Jess Woodard.

Woodard placed eighth in the shot put on the second day of the NCAA Championship held at Hayward Field to earn first team All-America honors. Her best mark of the competition was 56-6, which she recorded on her third attempt. It is her fourth first team All-America honor and the second this season.

The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Amanda Van Buren, Ama Pipi, Daye Shon Roberson and Leya Buchanan started the day off for the Sooners by running 44.63 in its heat to finish 13th overall. They earned second team All-America honors.

Pipi later ran 23.56 in her 200-meter semifinal, but her time didn't advance her to the final. She finished 19th overall.

Baileh Simms was only able to record one legal jump of 19-4.25 on her third attempt and finished 22nd.

To close out the night, Pipi, Roberson, Daunicia Demerson and Payton Baker ran 3:33.08, which was third in their heat and the eighth fastest time overall. They didn't advance because they did not finish in the top two of their heat or have the two next fastest times.

Tomorrow Hayden McClain will take to the sand pit in the triple jump final, scheduled to begin at 7:40 p.m. CT.

Dylan Blankenbaker returns for the steeplechase final, and will line up at 7:54 p.m.
