Gordon Finishes Third, Seventh at USATF

June 25, 2017 | Track and Field

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The final day of the United State Track and Field Association's Senior National was less than successful than the first three days for the former Sooners who were competing.

Dylan Blankenbaker got a slow start in the steeplechase final and, unlike other races this season, he never really got back into the race. He got as close as ninth before finishing 14th with a 9:03.49.

After winning the triple jump on Friday, former Sooner Will Claye competed in the long jump on the final day. He had fouls on his first two jumps, then recorded a 25-8 on his final effort. It wasn't enough to move him into the final eight and he finished 10th overall.

The USATF Junior National meet was held in conjunction with the senior meet and two Sooners participated in those events.

Meia Gordon finished third in the discus with her final throw of the competition. She was one of two competitors who had six legal throws. Her sixth throw, 172-0.00, moved her into third place after ranking in the top four through each of the six rounds.

Gordon then competed in the shot put and finished seventh. She ranked sixth after her first attempt, 49-6.25. Her third throw improved her result to 50-4.00 and she had fouls on her other attempts.

Amanda VanBuren finished 11th in the 200-meter dash with a 24.48 but did not advance to the final.
