John Jacobs High School Meet Opens at 11 AM

With the stormy weather in Norman area, the start of the high school portion of John Jacobs Invitational has been pushed back to an 11 a.m. start.

NORMAN – Known primarily as a collegiate meet when It started and many years after that, the John Jacobs Invitational will start its annual run with the high school division on Friday morning at the John Jacobs Field.

This year's field includes some of the top high school teams in the state and is unique in that it is a large meet with teams from different classes lining up to compete against each other, regardless of division.

The 2017 field includes Altus, Bartlesville, Casady, Comanche, Duncan, Edmond Memorial, Edmond North, Edmond Santa Fe, Elgin, Jenks, Lawton, Mangum, Midwest City, Moore, Ninnekah, Norman, Northwest Classen, Oologah, Owasso, Putnam City, Putnam City West, Shawnee, South Moore, Spiro, Stillwater, Tuttle, Washington, Waurika, Weatherford and Yukon.

The field events start the day at 11 a.m. with the girls discus and boys shot put. The 400-and 3200-meter relays open the running events at 10:30 a.m. The boys high jump, girls long jump and girls pole vault start at 1:30 p.m. and are the final field events. The girls and boys 1600-meter relays are the final events on the track and they are set for 3:10 p.m.

Weather updates will be posted to SoonerSports.com as needed. Parking during the day on Friday will be available in the easternmost end of the Duck Pond lot, accessible from Brooks St., and the Parkview lot, located on the corner of George and Lindsey. Spectators should access the facility from the north side of the track and there is no admission charge for either day of the meet.
