Sooners in Fifth After Two Rounds

NORMAN – The No. 24 Oklahoma women's golf team finished round two of the Mountain View Collegiate Invitational moving up three spots to fifth place. The 13-team tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,227-yard Mountain View Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.

Oklahoma, who sits at 590 (+14) through two rounds, shot a 291 (+3) on the day after a slow start. No. 17 Arizona (561; -15) is in first place after firing a 283 (-5), followed by Houston (578; +2) in second place and New Mexico State (580; +4) in third.

Julienne Soo has paced the Sooners through the opening two rounds, carding a 144 (E). The sophomore is tied for eighth place out of 75 competitors after sinking three birdies on the day for 71 (-1).

Junior Valerie Tanguay shot a 72 (E) and is tied for 18th place (147; +3). Tanguay joined teammate Soo in also recording three birdies on the day.

Junior Ana Ruiz ended the day shooting a 74 (+2).  Ruiz is tied for 32nd place (149; +5). Teammate Hannah Wood registered a 180 (+6) on the day to share 39th place after carding a 74 (+2) on Saturday, and Rylee Pedigo shares 41st place (181; +7) after recording a 74 (+2).

“We played much better today,” said head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “I'm proud of the girls and how they were able to stay patient and committed to every shot. We had a lot more fun and energy on the course today.”
