Sooners in Fourth Through Two Rounds

NORMAN – The No. 20 Oklahoma women's golf team finished the opening day of the Schooner Fall Classic at 568 (E). The 12-team event is being played at the par-71, 6,939-yard Belmar Golf Club.
Due to the weather forecast, teams played 36 holes on Saturday and will finish the third round on Sunday with tee times beginning at 11 a.m. The Sooners opened the day with a 283 (-1) in the first round before logging a 285 (+1) in the final round of Saturday. Florida State is in first place at 549 (-19), while No. 1 Alabama is in second with a 557 (-11). Clemson rounds out the top three at -2.
Julienne Soo paced the Sooners on the day, firing a two-round 139 (-3) to share seventh place. The sophomore opened the day with a 69 (-2), her first collegiate round in the 60s. She followed with a 70 (-1) in the evening's round.
Sophomore Hannah Wood carded a 72 (+1) in the opening round but responded in the day's final round with five birdies for a 68 (-3) to share 11th place at 140 (-2). The two par-or-better rounds mark her fifth par-or-better round out of six frames this season.
Sophomore Valerie Tanguay shares 22nd at 143 (+1) after logging a first-round 70 (-1) and a 73 (+2) in the second round of the day, and classmate Ana Ruiz logged a 72 (+1) and a 74 (+3) in the first and second rounds, respectively. Ruiz is tied for 29th place at 146 (+4).
Rylee Pedigo shot a 74 (+3) in the first round and a 79 (+8) in the second to record a 153 (+11). The sophomore sits in 49th place.
“It's exciting to see the girls keep improving and keep getting closer to their goals,” OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. “We had a really solid round going this afternoon before the conditions started to get bad, but we will use what we learned today to have a better round three.”
Seniors Haley Hill and Maggie Neece, sophomore Karen Arimoto and freshman Sydney Youngblood are playing as individuals in the event and are unattached from team scoring.
Youngblood started out hot, firing a collegiate-best bogey-free 67 (-4) in the opening round of the event. The rookie struggled in the second round, shooting a 79 (+8) for a two-round 146 (+4) to share 29th.
Neece and Hill share 61st place at 158 (+16). Neece carded a 78 (+7) and an 80 (+9) over the first two rounds, respectively, and Hill logged an 82 in the opening round, but improved with a 76 (+5) in the second.
Arimoto is in 64th place at 171 (+29) after shooting an 87 (+16) in the first round and an 84 (+13) in the second.
