EUGENE, Ore. - Former Sooner national champion Candyce McGrone finished fourth in her heat of the100-meter dash at the U.S. Olympic Trials at historic Hayward Field with an 11.24. That finish and time was good enough to send her to the semifinals on Sunday. Later, senior-to-be Daye Shon Roberson finished 15th in the 400 to end that part of her Olympic journey.
McGrone will run the 100-meter dash semifinals Sunday at 4:02 p.m.. The top eight from the semifinal will advance to the final which will be run later Sunday. She has a career best in the 100 of an 11.00, recorded a year ago at Hayward Field during the U.S. Nationals. McGrone returned to prominence on Hayward Field a year ago, setting the stage for an impressive performance at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing two months later.

McGrone won a national title in the 200-meter in 2011 while competing for OU. She was a four-time All-American in the 100 and 200 outdoor and the 60 and 200 in the indoor season.
McGrone is also scheduled to run in the 200 later in the week where she could meet up with current Sooner and senior-to-be Roberson. The first round of the 200 is set for Friday with the semifinal on July 9 and the final on July 10.
Roberson ran a 52.82 in the 400 semifinals to finish 15th. The top eight advanced to Sunday's final so Roberson shifted her attention to the second event she is qualified in, the 200. Roberson is the school record holder in the 200 after recording a 22.65 to finish second at the Payton Jordan Invitational in May. That broke a record that had been on the books for eight years.
Roberson finished as the Big 12 runner-up in the 200. She also earned All-America honors in the indoor 200.
The Trials continue through July 10. Live results, start lists and broadcast schedules are available on the USATF website and daily recaps will follow on SoonerSports.com.
