Sooners Finish First Round in Eighth Place

OU Improves to Share Sixth at Big 12s

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team rallied in round two of the Big 12 Championships, carding a 289 (+1) to improve by three places to share sixth place. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,263-yard Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.

The Sooners improved by 13 strokes from their first-round score and are tied for sixth with Texas Tech. No. 9 Oklahoma State is at the top of the leaderboard with a 574 (-2) and No. 17 Iowa State holds second place at 578 (+2). Texas is in third, carding a 288 (+3).

Ana Ruiz is pacing the Sooners in the tournament with a two-round 143 (-1) to share sixth place. The sophomore pocketed four birdies on Saturday for a 70 (-2).

Classmate Hannah Wood improved on her Friday score by seven stokes, firing a 70 (-2) in the second round. Wood, who had a bogey-free Saturday, shares 17th place at 147 (+3).

Sophomore Rylee Pedigo logged a 74 (+2) on the day and is tied for 26th place at 149 (+5), and classmate Valerie Tanguay is in 36th at 152 (+8). Tanguay posted a 75 (+3) in the second round.

Freshman Julienne Soo is tied for 37th place at 153 (+9) after tallying a 76 (+4) on Saturday.

“We played well as a team today,” OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. “We seemed looser and we were having a blast out there today. I'm really proud of the girls for sticking to our game plan and really staying patient all day.”
