AUSTIN, Texas – Four-day meets can be a test and, if that's true, the University of Oklahoma track and field teams passed the test on Saturday. Jess Woodard in the shot put and the women's 400- and 1600-meter relays used the final day of the Texas Relays to post results that moved them up the all-time performance lists for the Sooners to highlight the final day.
A total of 17 Sooners competed on Saturday and the Sooners' performances in the afternoon session were among the best in school history.

The women's 400-meter relay, Bianca Brazil, Ama Pipi, Daye Shon Roberson and Leya Buchanan, qualified to the final from the prelims Friday. In the final race of the meet for this quartet, the foursome combined to record a 44.60.

In the final Sooner event on the track, the women's 1600-meter relay, Pipi, Roberson, Daunicia Demerson and Payton Baker, finished fourth with a 3:32.95. That mark moved the quartet up to third on the all-time OU career list.
“We had a good Saturday and so it's nice to end on a good note,” said head coach Jim VanHootegem.
“The relays are an important part for us and the 4x1 did well. I like, in particular, the way the 4x4 mixed it up with some of the best teams in the country. All four of the women did very well and Daye Shon's split time was incredible. At some point leaders have to lead and Daye Shon did just that in the relays today.”
Woodard, who opened the day with a season best and sixth-place finish in the discus behind a throw of 169-0, closed her day with a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a 53-8.25. That mark moved her up to third on the all-time list, behind a former Sooner national champion and Olympian, Tia Brooks, and a All-American, Karen Shump.
Mackenzie Shell continued her solid and consistent rookie year, tying her career best with a 14-1.25, to finish seventh. Baileh Simms finished fourth in the long jump with a 20-0.50 and Chase Sammons finished fifth in the shot put with a 59-7.
“It was a strong afternoon overall and once again Mackenzie Shell gave a great performance,” the head coach continued. “She has been strong and consistent since she began. You especially like to see that at a meet like the Texas Relays.

“Baileh Simms gave a solid effort in finishing fourth and Chase Sammons improved today in his first time to compete in the shot put. It's been a good day.
The Sooners head to Baton Rouge for their fourth consecutive meet of the outdoor season for the SEC vs. Big 12 meet Saturday, April 9.
