Stanford Invitational

April 01, 2016 | Track and Field
STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Oklahoma track and field coaches don't like to split the team. When you have a chance, though, for your distance runners to record good times that could get your runners ranked on national lists, you split the team and give your distance runners that chance by sending them to the Stanford Invitational.
Junior Dylan Blankenbaker took full advantage of that decision, recording a 13:58.97 in the 5,000. It was his first time to run a 5K this season, and he got a time that should rank in the top 15 of the West Regional qualifiers after the weekend's results are entered. The time also ranks as the ninth best in school history.
Another junior, Kelsey McKee, lowered her PR by nearly three seconds in the 1500. She ran a 4:24.68 and her previous best was a 4:27.51. The time also was her best of the season by nearly four seconds.
Sooner junior Brittany Tretbar reworked her career best in the 10,000, recording a 34:24.21 after a previous best of 35:02.50. She moved to fifth on the all-time list. Elena Arriaza finished right behind her teammate with a 34:24.35.
Dan Schubert, the final Sooner to compete on Friday which had turned to Saturday in Oklahoma, wiped out his PR. The late start didn't seem to bother the senior who ran a 29:06.90. That time moved him to fourth on the all-time career list.
Will Hogston, a redshirt senior, cut 25 seconds of his PR in the 5,000, recording a 14:30.80. Belle Wallace recorded a 4:31.76 in the 1,500, her second race at that distance.
