The Oklahoma track and field teams separated for the lone time of the outdoor season with the majority of the student-athletes heading to Austin, Texas, for the 89th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, while seven distance runners headed west.
The two-day Stanford-hosted meet features entrants from 110 colleges as well as high school entries and open competitors. It has served as a strong opportunity to record times that usually end up among the ones that advance to the NCAA postseason. The Sooners will compete on Friday only even though those events will roll over into Saturday in the central time zone.
"It'd be nice if we were all together as a team, but in our sport, for distances in particular, it's really about where the competition is and for this weekend competition is at the Stanford Invitational," said head coach Jim VanHootegem. "We hope they get in there, mix -it -up and walk away with performances that they need to qualify for the regional championships."

Dylan Blankenbaker will compete on Friday in the 5,000-meter that begins at 9:53 p.m. (CT).
Action begins Friday at 11 a.m. (CT) but the Sooners open at 12:42 p.m. when Will Hogston runs in section 4 of the 5,000 meter. The second Sooner to run, Kelsey McKee, is set to race in section 5 of the 1,500-meter run at 2:42 p.m.
Belle Wallace, also participating in the 1,500 meter, competes in heat 3 at 8:31 p.m. and Elena Arriaza and Brittany Tretbar will race in the 10,000-meter race at 12:13 a.m. central time Saturday.
Other late-night/early morning competitors include Dylan Blankenbaker, who is scheduled to compete in section 3 of the 5,000 meter at 9:53 p.m., while Dan Schubert runs in section 2 of the men's 10,000 meter which is slated for a 12:51 a.m. start.
Live results of action at Cobb Track and Angell Field are available at Record Timing with a webcast of the meet streaming on Flo Track beginning at 10 a.m. for paid subscribers. A full recap will be available on SoonerSports.com at the conclusion of Friday's events.
