NORMAN – Playing in its first extra-inning contest of the season, No. 13/14 Oklahoma (17-5) lost to No. 22/22 Minnesota (17-8) in eight innings, 12-10, at home Wednesday night. The loss snapped OU's nine-game winning streak and marked the team's first defeat at home after a 7-0 start at Marita Hynes Field.

It was a back-and-forth affair that featured eight lead changes. OU scored in each of the first five innings and out-hit Minnesota, 15-13, but couldn't hold a seventh-inning lead for the first time this year.

Sophomore Lea Wodach was the offensive star for Oklahoma as she set a career high for hits by going 4-5 at the plate with two doubles and two runs scored. Wodach now has a 15-game hitting streak, the longest by an OU hitter since Lauren Chamberlain had a 17-game streak from the end of the 2013 season into the 2014 campaign.

Senior Erin Miller was 2-5 with three runs batted in, while freshmen Sydney Romero, Fale Aviu and Shay Knighten each drove in two runs.

The Sooners led the contest 8-7 going with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Sydney Dwyer's RBI single tied the game. The Gophers then poured on four runs in the top of the eight to move ahead 12-8.

Oklahoma mounted a comeback in the bottom of the frame, but came up just short.

Wodach doubled with one out and Aviu followed two batters later with a double of her own to make it 12-9. Knighten then singled beyond first base to plate Aviu, cutting the lead to 12-10. Senior Kady Self kept OU's hopes alive with a single to right field to put runners on the corners.

But with the winning run at the plate, a groundout to second ended the game.

Oklahoma strung together three consecutive hits in the bottom of the first to take an early lead.

Sophomore Kelsey Arnold and Wodach each singled before senior Erin Miller then delivered the run-scoring hit as she singled through the left side.

Minnesota briefly took the lead after a three-run homer by Maddie Houlihan in the top of the second snapped OU starter Paige Parker's scoreless streak at 20.0 innings, but Oklahoma countered with a three-run second of its own thanks to a Gopher error.

With runners on first and second with two out, Wodach hit a grounder to first base that was misplayed by Houlihan, loading the bases for OU. Miller came through clutch again as she singled up the middle to tie the game at 3-3. Two pitches later, freshman Fale Aviu pulled a ball through the left side to put OU on top.

The Gophers had an answer, though, in the top of the third as Sam Macken and Kayla Wenner hit back-to-back home runs to put Minnesota back on top 5-4.

The back-and-forth contest continued in the bottom of the third when Parker hit a one-out solo home run to left field. It was her first of the season and No. 10 in her career.

The Sooners then took the lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Wodach led off with a double to right center, her sixth two-bagger of the year, and a groundout from Miller moved her to third. A second straight groundout put two outs on the board, but freshman Shay Knighten didn't strand the runner as she pushed a single through the right side to put OU on top, 6-5.

Minnesota landed a counter-punch in the top of the fifth to go ahead 7-6, but Oklahoma fought back for two more runs in the bottom of the frame as Romero hit a two-run homer for her third long-ball of the year.

With the completion of its eight-game homestand, Oklahoma takes to the road this weekend at the Easton Tournament hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The five-game weekend begins Friday against DePaul at 6 p.m. CT and Cal State Fullerton at 8:30 p.m.
