LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The No. 14/10 Oklahoma softball team (7-2) ran its winning streak to seven games with its second straight run-rule shutout, beating New Mexico State (6-2) Saturday in six innings, 8-0, at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, N.M.

During the team's seven-game win streak, OU has outscored opponents 68-7 and outpaced them by batting averages of .409 to .213. In addition, the pitching staff has a 1.00 ERA compared to a 9.45 for the competition.

The win was the fourth this season for OU via run-rule, including each of the last three games. It was also the team's fourth shutout of the year. It capped a perfect 4-0 weekend at the tournament as OU rolled through its opponents by a score of 42-5.

It was also OU's second win over the Aggies during the weekend, improving its record to 20-3 all-time in the series. Among teams it's played at least 20 times, Oklahoma's .870 winning percentage against New Mexico state is third best behind North Texas (1.000) and Arkansas (.909).

Paige Parker threw her first shutout of the season as she struck out seven and walked just one with four hits allowed to improve to 3-1 on the season. In 23.1 innings this year as a starter, Parker has given up just two earned runs for a 0.60 earned run average.

The offense, which had at least eight runs and 11 hits in each game this weekend, saw four different Sooners have multi-hit games, including freshman Sydney Romero and sophomore Lea Wodach. Romero was 2-4 with two RBI and a triple, while Wodach went 2-3 with two RBI and the first home run of her season.

After stranding a pair of Aggie runners in the bottom of the first, Oklahoma broke through with three runs in the top of the second.

Freshman Fale Aviu hit a leadoff single. Senior Kady Self followed with a single of her own and took second when Aviu made it to third. Wodach got OU on the board with a single to left field, while sophomore Nicole Pendley drove in Self with a single of her own to right field.

Later in the inning with two outs and the bases loaded, freshman Shay Knighten hit grounder to second. After initially bobbling it, Rachel Rodriguez recovered in time and flipped to second to get the force out. However, shortstop Lucy Mendoza dropped the shovel pass and all runners were safe, including Pendley who crossed home plate.

The next three innings passed without a run scoring before Oklahoma put the run-rule into effect with a five-run sixth thanks to six consecutive hits.

Wodach got it started when she pulled the first pitch she saw over the fence in left field for her first home run of the season and the sixth of her career.

Now up 4-0, Pendley and pinch hitter Tori Nirschl singled before Parker hit a run-scoring ball up the middle. Romero then drilled her second triple of the season to right center to bring home two more runs, pushing the lead to 7-0. After a pitching change, Knighten drove home Romero with a single to left.

New Mexico State had a chance to keep the game alive for another inning as they had runners in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Parker would end it for OU however with her seventh strikeout.

Oklahoma returns to the field next weekend as it makes its annual trip to the prestigious Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. All five of OU's scheduled opponents are ranked or receiving votes in the current polls. Action begins Thursday as the Sooners meet Oregon State and Utah, before taking on No. 2/2 Michigan and No. 24/22 Fresno State on Friday and closing with No. 8/7 UCLA Saturday.
