Borman Finishes 12th in the Javelin

August 30, 2015 | Track and Field

NORMAN – The last of the five former Sooners to compete in the 15th IAAF World Championships, Brittany Borman was one of two who advanced to the final in her event.

While her 12th-place finish wasn't what she had hoped for, it did mark her first time in the final at a major international competition. This marked her second IAAF world meet and she participated in the London Olympics in 2012.

“I felt pretty technically sound today, but it just wasn't there,” Borman said. “I gave it everything I had, it just wasn't there.”

She opened the final by recording a 190-2 on her first throw. Her second attempt in the final measured 191-1. Her third throw went 189-10. It took a 199-9 to advance to the last three throws in the final.

She had thrown 210-8 in the qualifying round to advance to the final with the fourth best throw in the competition. She had recorded her career best in a competition in May when she had a 212-5.

Borman was a two-time NCAA champion while competing for the Sooners, winning titles in 2011 and 2012. She owns the OU school record in the javelin with a 194-11. She was a five-time All-American, earning the award three times in the javelin and twice in the discus. She also won four Big 12 titles, two each in discus and javelin.

Sprinter Candyce McGrone had the best showing of the five, finishing fourth in the women's 200. The remaining three former Sooners, Tia Brooks, Ronnie Ash and Will Claye, did not advance to the final in their events.
