Tia Brooks will be the first of five former Sooners to compete in the 15th IAAF World Championships when she steps into the shot put ring Friday. Brooks is scheduled to start competing at 10:10 a.m. Saturday local time/ 9:10 p.m. Friday central time. Finals for the event are slated to start later in the day in the National Stadium in Beijing, China.
Brooks is scheduled to compete in the first flight of the women's shot. The event features 24 competitiors.
There is a 13-hour time difference between Beijing and the Sooner campus in Norman.
Will Claye (triple jump) and Ronnie Ash (110 hurdles) open competition on Wednesday in Beijing in qualifying rounds. Candyce McGrone starts her competition in the 200-meter dash later Wednesday. The final for the triple jump and the semifinals for the hurdles and the 200 are set for Thursday night. The finals in the 110-hurdles and the 200 will be held later Friday.
Brittany Borman (javelin) will be the final former Sooner to compete as her qualifying round in set for Friday evening with the final set for Sunday, Aug. 30.
