Reedy Ends Successful Outdoor Season

EUGENE, Ore. - Julia Reedy wrapped up her first season of outdoor competition as an Oklahoma Sooner with a trip back to Hayward Field for the USATF Outdoor Championships. Two weeks ago, Reedy had six legal throws, all in excess of 205 feet, to finish fifth in the NCAA Championships. On Saturday, her best throw, a 197-11, came on her final attempt and that did not advance her to the final round of three throws.

Reedy opened her competition in the first flight with a 194-7, then had a foul on her second attempt. That was followed by what proved to be her final throw in the competition, one that left her in 15th place at the end of the competition.

The two legal throws in today's competition marked just the third time in competition this season for Reedy to post a throw of less than 200 feet. She set the school record with a 209-9.25 at the John Jacobs Invitational in April, then finished third in the Big 12 with a 204-7. She finished ninth in the NCAA West prelims with a 203-6 to earn a trip to the NCAA meet in her first outdoor season competing for the Sooners.

Not unlike Saturday's competition, Reedy's best throw in the NCAA came on her sixth and final attempt. That effort, 211-4, sent her to the podium with a fifth-place finish. The mark gave Reedy another school record by nearly two feet.

Reedy was the last of four Sooners to compete in the Senior National. Garrett Snow, who won the Big 12 title with a school record in the javelin, opened the competition for OU on Thursday by finishing 14th in the javelin. On Friday, Liz Herrs, who earned first-team All-America honors after finishing third in the NCAA, finished seventh in the women's javelin. Herrs, who ranked second in the country heading into the NCAA Championship, had the best throw in the country for more than a month. Brandon Doughty, who repeated as a Big 12 champion and NCAA first-team All-American with a school-record time, finished 16th in the men's steeplechase, also on Friday.
