Season Ends for Snow

EUGENE, Ore. - The last time Garrett Snow came home to Oregon to compete, he earned All-America honors with a 218-4 in the javelin in the 2014 NCAA. On Thursday, Snow returned home again to compete in the US Senior National and, while his effort wasn't much less than a year ago, he failed to advance to the championship round.

The senior to be recorded a 217-2 and finished 14th overall.

It brought an end to an up and down season to an end for Snow. He won the 2015 Big 12 title with a career-best/school-record throw of 241-6. He qualified for the NCAA prelims for a second consecutive year and entered the competition with the fifth best throw in the field. He missed qualifying for the NCAA Championship after finishing 17th in the prelim round.

He earned All-America honors in 2014 with a 10th-place finish at the NCAA. He was the 2014 Big 12 runnerup in the javelin with a throw of 232-8.

For the other three Sooners who are competing in the Senior National, Brandon Doughty, Liz Herrs and Julia Reedy, this is their second trip to TrackTown, USA, as Eugene is known, in two weeks. The three seniors to be earned first team All-America honors in their specialty at the NCAA meet June 10-13.

Doughty finished fourth in the steeplechase with a school-record/career-best time of 8:38.35 on June 11. He will run in the first round of the steeplechase Friday at 8:30 pm (CDT) in hopes of advancing to Sunday's 4:06 pm final. Doughty repeated as Big 12 champion in the steeplechase in May. He is one of 10 collegians in this event.

Herrs finished third in the javelin at the NCAA with an 185-1 on her final throw. That finish made her a two-time All-American in the javelin. It also was nearly 20 feet better than her best throw at the NCAA meet in 2014. She will compete Friday at 9 pm. She currently ranks second on the OU career list with a 189-6.75, a mark she earned earlier this season. For more than a month during the collegiate season, it was the best throw in the country. She ended up with the second best throw in the country, heading into NCAA competition. She finished second in the 2015 Big 12 after winning the title in 2014. Herrs is one of eight collegians in the field.

Reedy finished fifth in the hammer at the 2015 NCAA with her own career-best/school-record throw of 211-4. It also came on her sixth and final throw. The trip to the NCAA meet was the first of her career. She will compete on Saturday at 2:15 (CDT). Reedy, competing in her first outdoor season for OU, was third in the hammer at the Big 12. She is one of five collegians entered in the Senior National.

The javelin and hammer competitions will have a preliminary round, then the top eight will advance to the final round. The steeplechase will advance the top four of two heats plus the next six fastest to Sunday's final.

Qualifiers for the 2015 IAAF World Championships August 22-30 in Beijing, China, the Pan Am Games in Toronto, Ontario, July 20-26, and the Jim Thorpe Cup in Bernhausen, Germany, August 8-9, will be selected from performances at Senior Nationals.
