Round-One Results

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished Thursday's opening round of the NCAA San Antonio Regional in seventh place. The 18-team tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,350-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.

The Sooners, who are the tournament's No. 14 seed and the only unranked team to finish the round in the top 12, completed the day at 288 (E). OU is currently ahead of six ranked teams. No. 3 seed Tennessee sits atop the leaderboard at -12 and No. 1 UCLA is in second at 10 under. No. 6 seed Baylor finished the round at 280 (-8) and is in third place.

Freshmen Hannah Wood and Valerie Tanguay led the Sooners, each firing a 71 (-1) in Thursday's round to share 24th place out of 96 competitors.  Tanguay started strong, registering two birdies and a 45-foot shot for eagle in her first four holes. Wood, who was named to the All-Big 12 Team earlier in the day, was at +3 on her first nine holes before playing the final nine at 4 under.

OU's Alexandra Kaui pocketed a team-high five birdies in the round en route to a 72 (E). The sophomore is tied for 33rd place.

Oklahoma freshman Ana Ruiz is tied for 46th place with a 74 (+2), and classmate Rylee Pedigo shot a 76 (+4) to share 70th place.

Sixth-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said the performance is what she hoped to see from her young squad.

“We played solid today,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “We're pleased with the way we started, and we need to keep that going. We are right where we need to be to finish well in this regional.”

The San Antonio Regional is one of four 54-hole preliminary events for the NCAA Championships finals. The low six teams and low three individuals not on an advancing team from each regional will move on to the NCAA finals, which will be held May 22-27 at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.

The Sooners will tee off for Friday's second round at 7:30 a.m. CT with Auburn and Florida State. Live scoring and results can be found at GolfStat.com.
