Sooners to Compete in Elite Tournament
April 09, 2015 | Women's Golf
NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team will travel to Tempe, Ariz., this weekend for the 2015 PING/ASU Invitational. The 15-team tournament, which features 12 teams in Golfweek's top 50 and seven of the top eight, will be played Friday-Sunday at the par-72, 6,223-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course.
The Sooners are coming off a 9.5-2.5 match-play loss to No. 11 Oklahoma State at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman last weekend. Freshmen Valerie Tanguay, Hannah Wood and Ana Ruiz all scored for the Sooners. Tanguay picked up a point in the morning rounds with a 5&4 win over OSU's Alexis Sadeghy, while Wood collected the Sooners' only full afternoon point in a 1-up victory over No. 58-ranked Linnea Johansson. Ruiz halved her afternoon match with No. 71-ranked Kenzie Neisen to nab half a point for OU.
OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she is anxious to see how her squad will perform against some of the country's best teams.
“This is one of the best fields we'll see all year. It's a national championship-caliber field,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “If you look at it, all of the top teams are there, so to play in this tournament will be good for the girls. Hopefully we can play well and see how we stand against the best teams in the nation.”
The Sooners will tee off Friday at 11:30 a.m. CT with Stanford and Duke. Live stats will be available at GolfStat.com.
