NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team logged a second-round 294 (+6) Saturday and remains in 13th place at the 15-team PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The event, which features 12 teams ranked in Golfweek's top 25, is being played at the par-72, 6,223-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course.
The Sooners, who shot an opening-round 293 (+5) Friday, sit at 587 (+11) heading into Sunday's final round. No. 7-ranked Arizona is at the top of the leaderboard at 288 (-12) and is followed by No. 5 South Carolina at 4 under and Texas at 2 under.
Ana Ruiz fired an even-par 72 Saturday and leads the Sooners with a two-round 142 (-2). The freshman, who is tied for 17th place out of 87 competitors, birdied two of her last three holes on the day.
Fellow OU freshman Valerie Tanguay recorded a 73 (+1) in Saturday's round and is tied for 28th place at 145 (+1).
Hannah Wood, another freshman, is tied for 52nd place at 149 (+5) after logging a 74 (+1) in the second round, while sophomore Alexandra Kaui shot a 76 (+4) to finish the round tied for 70th place at 152 (+8).
Freshman Rylee Pedigo improved upon her first-round score by 10 strokes, shooting a second-round 75 (+3). Pedigo is in 85th place with a 157 (+13).
OU sophomore Maggie Neece is playing as an individual and is unattached from team scoring. Neece registered a second-round 82 (+10) and is in 84th place at 156 (+12).
Sixth-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she's happy with how her team has played through the first two days against a stacked tournament field.
“We played well again today and it's encouraging to see,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “We've all put in some time in our practices to work on areas we can improve on and it's paying off. Ana (Ruiz) is playing solid. She's just playing one shot at a time and is really staying patient out there.”
The Sooners are set to tee off in Sunday's final round of the PING/ASU Invitational at 10:06 a.m. CT from hole 10. Live scoring and results can be found at GolfStat.com.
