AMES, Iowa — Three Oklahoma wrestlers advanced to the championship matches and four took third place in the first session of the Big 12 Championship. The event is being held inside Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.
Representing the Sooners in tonight's championship round will be redshirt junior Cody Brewer, redshirt freshman Shayne Tucker and redshirt senior Justin DeAngelis.
Brewer, the No. 2 seed, moved to the finals with a 9-3 decision of Oklahoma State's No. 3 seed Gary Wayne Harding. Brewer will look to avenge his lone loss of the season when he faces No. 1 seed Earl Hall of Iowa State in the 133-pound finals.
At 149 pounds, No. 3 seed Tucker tallied the upset of No. 2 seed Gabe Moreno of Iowa State, who is ranked No. 12 by InterMat. Tucker trailed 6-5 late in the bout before recording a takedown and securing the win. He will take on West Virginia's No. 4 seed Roman Perryman for first place.
With a 7-3 decision of Iowa State's Luke Goettl, No. 2 seed DeAngelis advanced to face No. 1 seed Anthony Collica of Oklahoma State in the championship match.
Taking third for the Sooners were freshman Trae Blackwell and redshirt sophomores Clark Glass, Matt Reed and Ross Larson.
Blackwell, seeded No. 4, defeated No. 3 seed Michael Morales from West Virginia by 6-3 decision at 141 pounds, while No. 3 seed Glass tallied a 3-1 decision of WVU's No.4 seed Ross Renzi at 165 pounds.
At 174 pounds, Reed downed WVU's No. 4 Parker VonEgidy by 12-6 decision, and Larson closed the round with a fall against Iowa State's No. 4 Tyler Swope in 6:54. The fall was Larson's 18th of the season, moving him into a tie with Herb Calvert (1976) in OU single-season history.
