Sooners to Compete in Match-Play Event

March 17, 2015 | Women's Golf

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team will compete in a match-play event Wednesday, March 18, with Texas A&M. The event will be played at the par-72 Tegavah Golf Club in Rio Verde, Ariz.

The Sooners are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., where they recorded a three-round 904 (+40). Freshman Hannah Wood claimed her first individual title after firing a career-best 209 (-7).

OU has not competed in a match-play event since the 2012-13 season when it defeated in-state rival Oklahoma State, 8-3, in Stillwater, Okla. Sixth-year Sooner head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she is anxious to see her team compete in a new setup.

“It will be a lot of fun to watch these one-on-one matches,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “This is a great format. You might make a big number on a hole but end up winning the match anyways. We're excited to get going against Texas A&M.”

The two squads will tee off starting at 9:36 a.m. CT. Pairings will not be decided until the morning of the event. Results and statistics will be available after play is completed.
