The final coaches' education session, presented by the University of Oklahoma track and field program, in a series of four is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 18. It will feature Dr. Gerry Ramogida, an internationally recognized chiropractor and performance therapist. He will address “The Role of Quality Training in Injury Prevention.”
Dr. Ramogida has served on many Canadian national teams and across a wide range of sports from football, soccer, ice hockey and athletics. He has been a chiropractic consultant with the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL since 2002. He was brought on by British Athletics as their lead performance therapist for the 2012 London Olympics where performances produced six medals, including four golds.
Dr. Ramogida has been a practicing chiropractor since 1997 and has worked with dozens of high-profile professional and Olympic athletes. His interests include how manual therapy influences performance and motor learning, particularly as it relates to the teaching and acquisition of sprint technique and speed development.
The session will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a time for socializing and dinner at Headington Hall, the site of the session. Cost for the dinner are included in the $25 session fee. There will be a mini session covering new topics in sport science at 7:15 p.m. followed by the main speaker and a question and answer period after the presentation. The main speaker will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the session scheduled to end at 9 p.m. Parking for the event is available in the lot directly south of Headington Hall with entry to the lot off Jenkins Ave.
This is the second year for the Sooner coaches to host the coaches club on the Norman campus. Previous speakers in the second annual series of clinics this year included Irving “Boo” Schexnayder, director of Schexnayder Athletic Counseling, who spoke on “The Keys to Developing High School Long Jumpers;” Stuart McMillan, performance director at World Athletics Center, who spoke on ““How to Write a Speed Program;” and former University of Illinois head coach Gary Winckle, who spoke about “Developing the Sprint Hurdler.”
