Round-Two Results
NORMAN − The University of Oklahoma women's golf team is tied for fourth place after Sunday's two rounds at the Westbrook Spring Invitational with a 580 (+4). The two-day, 54-hole event is being played in Peoria, Ariz., at the par-72, 6,269-yard Vistas Course at the Westbrook Village Golf Club.
The Sooners, who are playing four freshmen and a sophomore, tallied a 292 (+4) for the first 18 holes and followed with a 288 (E) in the second round to close the day just one stroke out of third place.
No. 12-ranked Tennessee leads the 15-team field at 8 under par (568) while Oregon sits in second place at 8 under. Illinois finished the day in third place with a 579 (+3) and Oregon State and Notre Dame share fourth place with the Sooners at 580 (+4).
Sixth-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said it was exciting to see the areas in which her team improved over the offseason.
“We've been working hard on our games and it's paying off,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “We worked on areas we needed the most and it's helping. Playing 36 holes can be tough and tiring. We struggled to finish our rounds, but I'm actually really happy with the results. We need to take that momentum into tomorrow.”
Oklahoma's Hannah Wood started her spring campaign strong, finishing the day tied for first place out of 82 competitors at 140 (-4). After shooting an even-par first round, the freshman responded with a 68 (-4) to close the day. Wood pocketed four birdies and 14 pars in the second round.
“Hannah is playing solid. She's been working really hard on her putting, and it's made a huge difference in her game,” Drouin-Luttrell explained. “She's a great asset to us.”
Fellow Sooner freshman Ana Ruiz opened the tournament with a 2-over 74 and added a second-round 71(-1) to finish the day tied for 17th place at 145 (+1).
The freshman duo of Valerie Tanguay and Rylee Pedigo is tied for 32nd place, each with a 4-over 148. Tanguay finished the first round at 3 over par but improved in the second, registering a 73 (+1). Pedigo proved to be solid in the opening round, shooting an even-par 72, and followed with a 76 (+4) in the afternoon.
OU sophomore Alexandra Kaui is tied for 54th with a 150 (+6) after shooting a 74 (+2) and a 76 (+4).
The Sooners will tee off in Monday's final round beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT. Live results will be available at GolfStat.com.
