CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — By a 19-16 margin, the Oklahoma wrestling team fell to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Sunday afternoon inside Maclellan Gym. The meeting was a regional contest of the EAS Sports Nutrition/NWCA National Duals, presented by Hibiclens and the United States Marine Corps.

The Sooners slipped to 6-10 overall on the season, while the Mocs moved to 12-5 overall and advanced to next weekend's National Duals finals with their ninth straight victory.

With the team score tied at 16, the dual came down to the heavyweight bout between No. 11 Ross Larson and UTC sophomore Jared Johnson. Johnson jumped out to a 7-2 first-period lead before Larson responded and cut the lead to one after two. Larson tied it at 11, but 1:45 riding time gave Johnson the 12-11 decision and the Mocs the dual win.

OU's four match wins on the day came at 133 pounds, 157 pounds, 165 pounds and 174 pounds. At 133 pounds, No. 4 Cody Brewer stormed to a 15-3 decision of No. 13 Nick Soto. Brewer, a redshirt junior, tallied a pair of takedowns, two reversals, a three-point nearfall and the riding time point in the victory.

In the 157-pound bout, No. 19 and redshirt senior Justin DeAngelis topped junior Austin Sams by decision, 7-1. The match remained scoreless after the first period before DeAngelis added an escape and two takedowns in the final two frames.

Redshirt sophomore Clark Glass posted his third fall of the season, this one in 4:32, as he topped UTC's Justin Lampe at 165 pounds to give OU the lead back, 13-9.

No. 17 Matt Reed stretched OU's match win streak to three as he downed Sean Mappes by decision, 7-5. The redshirt sophomore recorded two takedowns and a two-point nearfall in the contest.

The Mocs started the dual with a decision at 125 pounds as No. 10 Sean Boyle defeated OU freshman Ryan Millhof, 9-3. At 141 pounds, Mike Pongracz topped freshman Trae Blackwell by 2-0 decision, and Shawn Greevy beat redshirt freshman Shayne Tucker by decision, 6-2.

The 184-pound match saw OU freshman Brooks Climmons fall to McCoy Newberg by 13-2 major decision. With the score tied at 1 after regulation, the 197-pound contest entered sudden victory, where UTC sophomore Scottie Boykin recorded a takedown with 0:47 on the clock to down freshman Andrew Dixon by 3-1 decision.

The Sooners will return to action on Saturday, March 7, for the Big 12 Championship in Ames, Iowa. Tickets for the tournament are available now online.
