Fall Softball Continues Wednesday Night

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma softball team continues its eight-game fall schedule Wednesday night with a matchup against North Central Texas College. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Marita Hynes Field.

Prior to the game, a moment of silence will be held for the four members of the NCTC program that lost their lives in a bus accident just over a year ago on a return trip from a fall game against Southern Nazarene.

In addition, a special banner will be placed on the outfield wall commemorating those four players.

Former Sooner All-American and NCAA home run champion Lauren Chamberlain will also throw out the first pitch before the game. Chamberlain has bonded with the NCTC players since the tragedy and even served as a guest coach for an alumni game last November that raised over $19,000 for the NCTC Angels in the Infield Scholarship fund and Softball Family Benefit fund.

Tickets for tomorrow night's game are $5 for general admission and $3 for students in grades K-12 and senior citizens. Children under three years of age and OU students are free.

The Sooners have played four fall games already, sweeping the competition at the Fall Festival on Sept. 25-26. OU outscored its opponents 44-1 and dominated nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.448 to .180), hits (56-16), extra-base hits (15-2) and walks (18-5). The pitching staff was strong, too, allowing just one earned run in 25 innings for a 0.28 earned run average and recording 36 strikeouts.
