NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team remains in ninth place after Monday's second round of the Jim West Challenge. The tournament, which features four squads in Golfweek's top 20, is being played at the par-72, 6,373-yard Tapatio Springs Golf Resort in Boerne, Texas.
The Sooners carded a 296 (+8) on the day and sit at 593 (+17) after two rounds. No. 7-ranked Kent State leads the 13-team field at 10 under, while Texas A&M shot a two-round 570 (-6) and sits in second place. Florida State is in third at 572 (-4).
Hannah Wood leads the Sooners, firing a 72 (E) in Monday's round. The sophomore, who has played all four rounds this season at par-or-better, is tied for 10th place out of 72 competitors at 143 (-1).
Classmate Rylee Pedigo improved by six strokes in the second round, recording an even-par 72. Pedigo shares 40th place with a 150 (+6), while fellow sophomore Ana Ruiz is tied for 34th place. Ruiz logged a 76 (+4) on the day for a two-round 149 (+5).
OU's Valerie Tanguay registered a 77 (+5) in the round and is tied for 48th place at 152 (+8). After struggling in the opening round, freshman Julienne Soo improved by five strokes and shot a 76 (+4) on Monday. She is tied for 63rd place at 157 (+13).
Oklahoma sophomore Haley Hill is playing as an individual in the tournament and is unattached from team scoring. Hill registered an 84 (+12) on the day and is in 71st place with a 166 (+22).
Seventh-year OU Head Coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she is seeing good improvements from her team and hopes to keep making adjustments for tomorrow's final round.
“Hannah (Wood) is playing solid. She's a grinder out there and she figures out a way to make pars and some birdies,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “Rylee (Pedigo) also played well today. She worked on a few things from yesterday and she was able to capitalize. Tomorrow we just need to get off to a fast start and create some positive energy to build on.”
The Sooners will tee off for Tuesday's final round at 8:30 a.m. CT. Live stats are available at BirdieFire.com.
